š July 2023 saw the highest loss in Web3 exploits this year, with $363 million lost in 47 incidents according to REKT Database.
šø Ethereum chain had the majority of these exploits (29), followed by BNB Chain (13) and others like Avalanche.
Two major incidents involved Multichain and Curve, both causing significant financial losses.
š« Multichain suffered unauthorized access on July 10, leading to large fund transfers to a single EOA, sparking speculation of an internal operation.
š¤ Curve was attacked on July 30, suffering estimated losses between $20 million and $42 million, but recovered nearly $5.5 million due to an ethical bot operator; the incident also led to a 23% drop in CRV token price and a decline in total locked assets from over $3 billion to $1.7 billion.
š The total value of assets locked on Curve dropped from over $3 billion to $1.7 billion within a day.
š¤¬ Despite a quiet few months, these incidents highlight the need for robust security measures in the Web3 industry.
